Orchard Circuit

Pommeow patrols the same bent route each morning. The route has no gate, no destination, and one excellent shade patch. Every leaf is treated as a developing situation.

Morning Round

At sunrise, Pommeow rolls out across the grass and listens for apples landing nearby. None ever do. The stalk points forward anyway. By noon, the patrol has covered twelve careful feet, inspected one cloud, and returned to the same cool patch with its tongue out.
